Edun Meets World Bank VP to Advance Power Sector Reforms

The Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, has met with Guangzhe Chen, Vice President for Infrastructure at the World Bank, to discuss critical power sector reforms aimed at improving access to electricity and accelerating infrastructure development.

The meeting, which was disclosed in a statement by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Mohammed Manga, focused on overcoming existing obstacles in the power sector to address Nigeria’s electricity challenges

The statement quoted the minister to have reaffirmed the Nigerian government’s commitment to the Mission 300 project—a partnership between the World Bank and the African Development Bank—aimed at providing electricity to 300 million people across Africa by 2030.

It explained that both parties critical on the need for transformative reforms to improve energy efficiency, expand access to underserved communities, and ensure sustainable energy solutions to meet the demands of Nigeria’s rapidly growing population.
According to the statement the reforms are key drivers for economic growth and national development.
The statement indicated that, the meeting was attended by key officials, including Ndiame Diop, World Bank Country Director for Nigeria, Franz Drees-Gross, Director of Infrastructure for West Africa, Taimur Samad, World Bank Operations Manager, and representatives from the Office of the Special Adviser on Energy to the President.

Through these collaborative efforts, the statement said Nigeria targets to unlock its full potential by addressing power sector inefficiencies and providing sustainable energy solutions, which will help boost infrastructure development and drive long-term economic prosperity.
