NHRC Reports 467 Deaths in Four States, 1,200 Arrests of Protesters
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has disclosed that at least 467 Nigerians were killed in Kaduna, Benue, Katsina, and Plateau states between July and August 2024.
Additionally, the Commission reported that approximately 1,200 #EndBadGovernance protesters have been arrested and detained by security agencies nationwide.
The NHRC expressed concern that some protesters were charged to court, while others were held beyond the constitutionally permitted period before being taken to court. Presenting the July and August 2024 human rights situation in Nigeria, Senior Human Rights Adviser Hillary Ogbona stated that the Commission received 414,200 complaints of human rights abuses across the country during this period.
