Elder statesman Chief Edwin Clark has lauded President Bola Tinubu and Nigerian security agencies for the successful rescue of 20 medical students abducted in Benue State and eight youth corps members from Akwa Ibom who had been held for over a year.
In a statement, Clark expressed his joy and relief at the news, praising the swift and effective actions taken by the authorities to secure the release of the captives.

Clark highlighted the severe impact of kidnapping and banditry on Nigeria’s economy and the safety of its citizens, noting how these crimes have hindered agricultural activities and made travel within the country perilous.
He recalled the tragic incident in Kaduna where kidnap victims, including a medical doctor on the verge of traveling abroad for further studies, were killed, stressing the urgency of addressing the kidnapping crisis.

The elder statesman commended the innovative rescue strategy employed, which reportedly involved using ransom as bait while deploying advanced technological tools to locate and apprehend the kidnappers.
He emphasized that such operations require sophisticated technology and coordination, making this success particularly commendable.

Drawing from his own experience in negotiating the release of hostages, including his son who was abducted in the Niger Delta, Clark acknowledged the complexities involved in rescuing kidnap victims.
He urged that the strategies used in this recent operation be applied across the country to tackle the pervasive issue of kidnapping.

Clark also called on state governors to enhance their efforts in ensuring security within their states, arguing that relying solely on the President for security is insufficient.
He pointed out that governors have successfully utilized security agencies for political purposes and should likewise use them to protect their citizens.

In conclusion, Clark reiterated his praise for President Tinubu, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, and all involved in the rescue operation, urging them to continue using such effective methods to restore safety across Nigeria.
