Shelve protest, it may go the way of EndSars, Uche Nwosu tells Nigerians
APC Chieftain, Chief Uche Nwosu who was Chief of Staff to Rochas Okorocha has passionately appealed to Nigerians youths to give president Bola Tinubu more time to fix the ills in the country.
The ruling party’s chieftain made this known in a statement released to journalists in Abuja yesterday.
Nwosu who spoke through a statement in Abuja on Thursday however admitted the reality that the times have been rough adding that there is hope, hence the youths should not give up and descend to protest that may be high jacked.
The protest against economic hardship code named EndBadGovernance protest, which is gaining traction on social media, has been planned to be held across all states of the Federation as well as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, in August. The organisers of the protest have been faceless.
Prices of food and basic commodities have gone through the roof in the last months, as Nigerians battle one of the country’s worst inflation and economic crisis sparked by the government’s twin policies of petrol subsidy removal and unification of forex windows.
Continuing, Nwosu said,
“Let me use this opportunity to appeal to our beloved Nigerian youths to give peace a chance . It is true that we are passing through hard times in our dear nation but we cannot give up like those who do not have hope.
“It is true that in a democracy citizens have the right to protest but most often the protests in Nigeria where we have 250 ethnic groups do not end well. “For example the EndSars protest where a very peaceful protest was being hajacked by people who do not mean well for the country at the end of the day properties worth billions of Naira and many lives were lost .
“Yes, president Bola Ahmed Tinubu policies and reforms might be harsh now but at the end of every tunnel there will be light.
“He is barely a year in office now why don’t we give him time to correct all the abnormalities we have seen in this country, abnormalities of yesterday.
“Let’s give him time to correct them so that we can have a country of our collective hopes and aspirations. There is no place like home, Nigeria is our country, let’s have a country where me and you will leave and say this is our country.”
