Center urges saboteurs to allow Dangote Refinery to breath for PWD to survive

***Says, it will Empower Persons with Disabilities through Economic Growth

The Centre For Ability, Rehabilitation and Empowerment (CARE) has urged those sabotaging the full operation of the Dangote Refinery to allow it to function so that the Persons With Disability (PWD) can also breath.

This is coming as the centre also
threw its weight behind the call to let the Dangote Refinery breath following the Dangote/Nigerian National Petrol Company Limited (NNPCL) Feud.
Founder/Chief Responsibility Officer of CARES, Dr. Chike Okogwu in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday said, “Nigeria’s fuel importation bill is staggering, with the country spending an average of $400 million monthly (Source: Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, (NNPC).
“This significant expense puts pressure on the country’s foreign exchange reserves, leading to exchange rate hikes.”

Explaining further he indicated that Since 2015, Nigeria has spent over $40 billion on fuel imports (Source: Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN).
“At the forefront of Nigeria’s economic growth and inclusive development, we at the Centre For Ability, Rehabilitation and Empowerment (CARE) recognizes the critical role of the Dangote Refinery and Foundation in empowering Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).

“As we navigate the challenges of high petroleum costs and their impact on PWDs, we must acknowledge the refinery’s potential to reduce fuel imports, stabilize the exchange rate, and create a more inclusive economy.

“The Dangote Refinery, with its 650,000 barrels-per-day capacity, will significantly reduce fuel imports, conserving foreign exchange and stabilizing the exchange rate.”

He said the refinery in turn, Lower transport costs for PWDs, making it easier for them to access essential services and participate in economic activities.
“Reduce the financial burden on PWDs, who often face higher transportation costs due to their disability.
“Increase access to affordable electricity, as the pressure on the foreign exchange leakage will make the Naira stronger and electricity prices currently calculated by the exchange rates will reduce.
“The refinery will also produce petrochemicals and fertilizers to encourage PWD to invest in Agriculture
He said it will Create employment opportunities for PWDs in the refinery and related industries adding that it will stimulate economic growth, leading to increased investment in disability-inclusive infrastructure and services.

“We repeat, high exchange rates definitely have a ripple effect on the cost of electricity, making it unaffordable for many Nigerians, including PWDs.
“By reducing the pressure on foreign exchange, the Dangote Refinery will help stabilize the exchange rate, leading to lower electricity costs and increased access to this essential service for PWDs.
“The Dangote Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Dangote Group, has demonstrated commitment to supporting PWDs through various initiatives like Scholarship programs for PWDs, Donations to organizations supporting PWDs.

He said it has ecourage Accessibility modifications in public spaces, Health interventions, including rehabilitation services and Economic empowerment programs for PWDs.

“Recently, at the Africa CEO Forum in Kigali, Rwanda, the Managing Director of Total, Mr. Patrick Pouyanné, highlighted the challenges faced by investors in Nigeria.

“He noted that investors leave Nigeria due to the country’s unstable regulatory environment, lack of infrastructure and high operating costs.
“This has a significant impact on investments in Nigeria, as it discourages potential investors and hinders economic growth.

“In contrast, the Dangote Refinery’s commitment to Nigeria’s economic growth and inclusivity is a beacon of hope.
By supporting this project, we can demonstrate to investors that Nigeria is a viable destination for investment, with a focus on inclusivity and empowerment of PWDs.
