LP asks Presidency to Stop playing the ostrich over EndBadGovernance protest

***Says,
Obi did nothing to trigger 40% food inflation’

“Says Nigerians did not expect good governance

Alliance for All Labour Party(LP)Professionals and Stakeholders has called out Bayo Onanuga over his recent allegation against the Labour Party’s Presidential candidate in the 2023 polls of being the mastermind of the EndBadGovernance protest that is still loading.

In a statement signed by the
Convener of the group, Ambassador Blessing Elaigwu she took on Onanuga for his continued determination to gloat around and disinform Nigerians through his evil propaganda insisting it is a clear disservice to his employers and to every Nigerian.

“Every Nigerian today is going through one harrowing experience or the other, maybe with the exception of a few, eating directly out of the Villa extravagance.

“And while most Nigerians will chose to pray for the nation for divine intervention, it is surprising that a few presidential aides, like
“Onanuga’s tweet weekend, where he made efforts to make light a serious national malaise is clearly infantile, puerile and jejune and by linking Labour Party, its national leader Peter Obi, and some notable party to the proposed ‘EndBadGovernance’ protest while leaving out prominent Nigerians who have also echoed the need for the protest is sycophancy taken to far.

“Every Nigerian is indeed concerned with the crisis we got ourselves into under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. It is a known fact that you don’t give what you do not have, and most Nigerians never expected anything different from what we have today.

“Peter Obi and Labour Party are not the reason why food inflation suddenly jumped to more than 40 percent. They are not also the reason why life expectancy has further reduced in the last one year, neither are they the reason while mortality rate has increased.

“Peter Obi and Labour Party didn’t cause degradation of the manufacturing sector or the massive exit of manufacturing companies. They didn’t ask the private sector to downgrade, retrench or lay off the workforce.

“We proposed an economy that will encourage from consumption to production, but under this government, Nigeria is now begging for bread, even from a wartorn Ukraine because we have failed to do the needful. “It is not Labour Party and Peter Obi that are responsible for the loan scrambling, even from nations with grave conditions.

“Do we have bad governance in Nigeria? Your guess is as good as mine. And why are the youths thinking of a protest as a way of registering their frustration in the system?
“The reasons are clear. They witnessed that in one year, the petroleum pump price jumped from below N200 to about N700 per liter. They witnessed naira exchanging for N2000 per dollar from below N400.
“They witnessed a loaf of bread which hitherto sold for N350 now selling for N2000; they also realized that in campuses, they can’t buy a plate of food at the school canteen for N300 again because a bag of rice is now N80.000 from less than N15.000 just like the cost of other food items have skyrocketed.

“To them, they believe that people like Onanuga and a few privileged persons in government are immune from the economic crisis and not abreast with the reality of the time.
“They were aware that at this critical point in time, that this same government chose to approve N6billion for car parks for the members of the National Assembly to enable them park the imported N165million prado jeep which this government bought for each one of 469 of them. T

“They were also aware that the sum of N15billion was approved to build a house for the Vice-President and N20billion to build the house of the Chief of Staff to the President and billions to furnish the Villa.
“Of course, they read that Number 12 Downing Street was built over 200 years ago and the new Prime Minister only two weeks ago moved into it without any renovation or change of furniture or even requesting for a new mansion to be built for him.

“These youths are not so dumb that this government awarded one contract to construct a coastal road at N15.6 trillion, a contract awarded to satisfy friendship and at a time that what should occupy their thoughts out to be how to salvage the acute hunger in the land.
“They are also aware that this government has borrowed more than $17billion within a year, using part of it to purchase a N150b presidential jet while also forcing N70.000 as minimum wage down the throat of the Nigerian workers.

“It is even amusing for the presidency to call for the arrest of Peter Obi and some Labour Party leaders. The Presidency’s stance is a classic case of “give a dog a bad name to hang it.” By tarnishing Peter Obi’s image and linking him to potential chaos, they aim to discredit his candidacy and undermine LP’s growing popularity.
“The Presidency’s selective targeting of Obi and LP reveals their true intentions to suppress opposition voices and maintain their grip on power.

“It is therefore essential for Nigerians to see through this ruse and recognize the government’s desperation to silence opposition voices.
“The planned protest is a legitimate expression of citizens’ grievances, and the government should address the underlying issues rather than attempting to suppress dissenting voices.

“President Tinubu should be mindful of any ‘Counsel of Ahitophel’ from people like Onanuga who are busy beating the drums of war. There is work to do and he must rise up to the occasion because that is why Nigerians supposedly hired him.”

Defection: LP heads to court, wants defectors’ seats declared vacant

LP Hall of shame

The leadership of the Labour Party(LP) has indicated that it has since taken legal action to compel the National Assembly leadership to declare the seats of the defected Labour Party lawmakers vacant.
The suit also is seeking the return of all salaries, emoluments, or privileges received from the date of defection.
These were contained in a Statement issued by the Party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh on Thursday in Abuja.
According to him, the party is dismayed at the betrayal of the people of Jos South/Jos East by Mr. Akangbe Illiya, a man whom the Labour Party and the people of Plateau State entrusted with their collective hopes and aspirations for a just and equitable society through legislation.
“Hon. Illiya, who has now earned a place on the Labour Party’s “Hall of Shame” register, has dishonored himself with this action.”

While acknowledging that the constitution guarantees citizens the right to freedom of association, the Labour Party asserts that such right is qualified when it comes to political party membership.
Explaining further, Obiora indicated that the law does not protect individuals who steal the mandate of the people and a political party, only to run into another party without first surrendering the mandate they deceitfully acquired.

This defection, like others before it, he observed is both unfortunate and condemnable.

“Section 68(g) of the 1999 Constitution is explicit on when a lawmaker, sponsored by a political party, can defect and what happens if they choose to jump ship.
“It is unnecessary to probe why most defectors have chosen the All Progressives Congress (APC) as their destination, or why the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tajudeen Abass, has refused to respect the provisions of the constitution by declaring their seats vacant.

However, it is the defecting politicians who should be pitied, as they have exposed themselves as unworthy of our collective trust going forward.

Taxation Debate: Adebayo Demands Transparency in Revenue Allocation

Published

By

Prince Adewole Adebayo

Former Social Democratic Party (SDP) Presidential Candidate, Adewole Adebayo, has raised critical questions about Nigeria’s tax system, calling for greater accountability and a focus on citizens’ welfare.
Speaking during a public engagement, Adebayo criticized the ongoing debates on tax reforms as disconnected from the realities faced by Nigerians.
“The issue is not just about new tax bills but about accountability for the trillions already collected. Before introducing new taxes, let us ask: where is the money from petroleum, solid minerals, and other sources?” Adebayo queried.

Adebayo also expressed concern about the increasing tax burden on ordinary Nigerians, particularly with value-added tax (VAT) hikes on essential goods.
“The poor are being squeezed while the political class enjoys extravagance. Raising taxes on essentials is unjust when previous revenues remain unaccounted for,” he said.

Adebayo highlighted the gap between revenue collection and public service delivery, noting that while the government collects significant sums daily, the average Nigerian continues to struggle.
“Every day, the government collects more money than some West African nations generate in a year. Yet, Nigerians remain hungry and underserved. Where is the transparency?” he asked.
He criticized the focus on intergovernmental tussles over tax revenues, describing it as irrelevant to the suffering masses.
“The debate over whether Abuja or state governments should hold more tax revenue is a fight among the elite. Nigerians care about results, better schools, healthcare, and roads not about who controls the funds,” he added.

Adebayo urged the government to revisit constitutional principles designed to guide the allocation and utilization of resources. He emphasized the need for a leadership ethos that prioritizes public welfare over personal gain.
“The Constitution provides a framework for equitable governance, but it is being ignored. Leaders must redirect funds toward improving lives, not luxuries,” he stated.
He urged citizens to demand accountability, noting that sustainable development requires ethical governance and effective resource utilization.
“Nigerians must not only ask for better policies but ensure their leaders are accountable. The focus should be on meeting citizens’ basic needs, not enriching a select few,” he concluded.

Adeyanju Slams PDP for Expelling Ugochinyere While Wike Remains a Member

Deji Adeyanju

Activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju has criticized the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for expelling House of Representatives member Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, accusing the party of being hypocritical and dysfunctional.
Adeyanju questioned the party’s decision to expel Ugochinyere for alleged indiscipline and anti-party activities while allowing Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to remain a member despite his controversial actions.
In a post on X, Adeyanju stated, “Ikenga Ugochinyere, the courageous one, has been expelled for anti-party by APC moles who are in charge of PDP, but Wike is still a member of the PDP. The jokes write themselves daily. The PDP is a dead party awaiting funeral rites.”
His comments reflect growing disillusionment with the PDP’s internal dynamics, as the party struggles with leadership issues and public perception. Ugochinyere’s expulsion, following a report by the party’s disciplinary committee, has sparked further criticism, with many questioning the party’s commitment to fairness and consistency in handling its members.
