PDP Ward Congress: Jigawa Screening Committee insists on party’s constitution, guidelines

The chairman Jigawa People Democratic Party (PDP) screening committee for candidates contesting in the forthcoming ward congress, Dr Aminu Abdullahi Taura has indicated that the committee would religiously follow the party’s constitution and the congress guidelines when carrying out it’s assignment.
The chairman made the disclosure while fielding questions from newsmen shortly after the inauguration of the committee at the party’s secretariat in Dutse.
In his words, “The committee would perform it’s duty strictly based on the PDP’s constitution and congress guidelines”.
Dr Taura explained that the party constituted the screening committee to ensure strict adherence to the party’s construction, justice and fairplay for the members participating in the Congress.
The chairman maintained that the guidelines indicates that any participating member must meet up with requirements to qualify to aspire and occupy any position in the party
According to him “The requirements, include; aspirants must be 18 years and above, must be party card carrying member of not less than 18 months and in financial good standing on his or her anaul check off dues”.

To avoid marginalization any area in all the 287 political wards, a quoter system representation must strictly adhered to.
Dr. Taura added that this time around the party has given a new instruction on the part of women to be part of guidelines for the next week congress. “The new instruction stipulates that six positions must be reserved for women in each political wards in the state.
This is in line with the effort of women especially theircommitment when it comes to the issue of voting.
“Everybody can testify that women are more in number at most of the polling units on the election days”.
He said the committee members are ready for the work, “it would be very simple as it is an internal matter which all members must be willing to give their contribution for the party to succeed”.
