Civil Society Group commends Tinubu over State Police
A group under the aegis of Citizens For Equity and National Development (CEND) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for listening to the cry of Nigerians and establishing State Police.
The group noted that the establishment of State Police by the Tinubu’s led administration is a respite for the security challenge been faced in the Country.
In a Communique issued on Thursday in Abuja by the group’s chairman, Ogbuefi Chibuzor Onyia and Secretary, Bar Joseph Achile Abu, after its meeting urged Nigerians to support the government to bring Nigeria out of the economic quagmire.
It also cautioned some Northern groups against engaging in anti government policies and hardship protest, adding that the Federal government has mapped out strategies to address the challenge.
The Communique reads in part
“The Citizens for Equity and National Development (CEND) in our meeting on the State of the nation held on 17th February, 2024 in Abuja, resolved to commend the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for listening to the long cry of the suffering Nigerians by establishing State Police.
“This is one of the long identified solutions to the lingering crisis of insecurity in the Country, along with devolution and decentralization of powers which Mr President has commenced through the proper relocation of Government Offices to where they are best suited to serve the Country better.
“We also condemned the increasing threat from some Northern groups to the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the issue of high cost of living while cautioning those threatening Armageddon that Nigeria belongs to all and that there is need for all hands to be on deck for the Country to come out of the woods, knowing that the government of the day has already mapped out strategies to arrest the situation.
“We equally commend those members of the National Assembly who recently introduced a Bill for Nigeria’s return to Parliamentary System of Government for recognizing what many Nigerians have since acknowledged that the prohibitive cost of running the Presidential System as we presently do, is unsustainable”
