The members of the Jigawa State House of Assembly have commenced impeachment process against the Speaker Rt. Honourable Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin

Reports from the state indicated that the impeachment process that was initiated has gained traction in the absence of the speaker after his trip with the governor of the state, Malam Umar Namadi to Saudi Arabia for lesser Hajj.

Our reporter in the state gathered that already the lawmakers had started appending their signatures for the impeachment notice against the speaker since Monday adding that they continued on Tuesday at an undisclosed location.

The National Update in the state gathered that the house has been on recess for some weeks, while the speaker traveled to Saudi Arabia along with the state governor since last week.

Reports from the state also indicated that heavy security comprising of personnel of police and Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) have since taken over the Assembly complex

Speaking to our reporter in the state, one of the lawmakers who spoke on condition of anonymity said they are about to get the required number of members to impeached the speaker

“I can confirm to you that so far about 17 members have signed. Hopefully in a little while the required number would be achieved going by the concrete arrangements and contact is been making by perforators”, a source confirmed to Our reporter.

The law maker alleged that members of the state assembly were worried about lack of transparency and accountability in the finances of the house

When contacted the police public relations officer (PPRO) of the Jigawa state command DSP Lawal Shi’isu Adam said they received intellegence report that there is a plan to disrupt public peace in the state.

DSP Lawal Shi’isu Adam noted that “the house is closed on recess security there were normal security personnel working at the building to prevent any eventualities “
