NIWA MD to reinvigorate Lokoja River Port, improve staff welfare

Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Bola Oyebamiji, has pledged to reinvigorate the Lokoja River Port by consolidating on the progress so far made on the project for it to fulfill its purpose.
The NIWA MD disclosed this during a familiarization tour of NIWA’s facilities in Lokoja according to a statement signed by Alhaji Jibril Darda’u, General Manager (Corporate Affairs) and made available to newsmen in Lokoja.
Oyebamiji, in the statement, said that the Lokoja River Port, located in the confluence state and in the central region of the country, would boost the economic viability of the state and Nigeria at large.
“We are here for facility tour to see for ourselves what is on ground at Jamata Port, Lokoja. It is important we come here to assess the facilities, to see at least, how we can move the facilities forward”, he said.
The Managing Director while on inspection tour of Dockyard facilities at the Lokoja Area Office, promised to give all necessary support to the workshop (where fabrication of boat engine parts and accessories for maintenance take place) in order to keep it functional.
The Lokoja Area Manager, Engr Titus Adoga who took the MD round the Dockyard facilities and the workshop said the workshop plays crucial role in fabrication of boat maintenance parts.
Addressing staff of the NIWA at the Lokoja Area Office in the Dockyard, the MD stressed the importance of staff to the development of the Authority by meeting their revenue targets as he promised to look into their welfare.
Also at the NIWA Headquarters in Lokoja, Oyebamiji, an interactive meeting with the general staff, encouraged them to work harder and give their best to the Authority to deliver on its mandate and as well, attain higher heights.
The Managing Director also pledged to give utmost priority to staff Training and welfare for optimal productivity.
Speaking at the meeting, Comrade Suleiman Danjuma, Chairman of the Nigerian Merchant Navy Officers and Water Transport Senior Staff Association (NMNO/WTSSA) commended the Managing Director for his good initiative in organising the interactive meeting.
Danjuma said that through the singular effort, the MD had succeeded in bringing staff of the Authority closer to the management.
The Association chairman said development would definitely boost staff morale as he pledged on behalf of the staff, their confidence in the MD and loyalty to his leadership. (Ends)
