Prioritize security of lives and property – Kogi CP urges govt

Kogi State Commissioner of Police (CP), Bethrand Onuoha has called on governments at all levels to accord priority attention to security of lives and property of the citizenry through improved logistics, communication and information gathering.
The Police Commissioner made the call in his office when officials of Kogi State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ) paid him a courtesy visit.
Onuoha said the current security challenge facing the nation demanded more attention and adequate funding to create better working condition for the Police and other security agencies.
According to him, the major challenges confronting Nigeria Police remained that of logistics, communication and information gathering.
The Police Commissioner said the importance of Media in sustenance of peace, tranquility and maintenance of the rule of law in any society can not be overemphasize.
He said the Media crucial especially in correcting societal ills, noting that the Police in the state would sustain its efforts at bringing crimes to minimal level.
The Police Commissioner pledged improved partnership with the NUJ and urged the new leadership of the Council to see their position as an opportunity to contribute to the growth and betterment of the society.
Earlier, the State Council Chairman of NUJ, Alhaji Seidu Haruna Ademu said the visit was to familiarize the new exco with the police Commissioner, saying that the need for synergy among the two cannot be overemphasized.
Alhaji Seidu commended the Police for its fight against crime and criminality and urged the Police to evolve a new and cohesive strategy to combat kidnapping, robbery and other crimes in the state.
The NUJ Chairman assured the CP that the existing partnership with the police would be improved upon, adding that there was no alternative to peace and security of lives and property. (Ends)
