The Jigawa state scholarship board has received over N774 million as scholarship allowance for 26,835 students for the 2023 academic session.
This was disclosed by the executive secretary of the JIgawa state Scholarship board, Malam Sa’idu Magaji in an interview with our reporter in Dutse
According to him, the scholarship is for students studying in tertiary institutions across the country for which the board had already commenced disbursement.
The executive secretary explained that, “The state government has released a total sum of N774,810,085.00k as scholarship allowance for 26,835 students studying at different tertiary institutions in Nigeria”.
According to him “This amount is for the 26,835 indigenous students studying at different higher institutions in the country, with exception of our foreign students”.
Malam Sa’idu Magaji noted that the board has already commenced disbursement to the beneficiary students, “As soon as we received the funds, we embarked on the payment as directed by his excellency governor Malam Umar Namadi”.
He stated that “We scheduled our payment in to three. Starting with students studying at institutions within the state who are more in number. While the second phase is for students neighboring Kano state and the third is for the students of the Institutions out side Jigawa and Kano states”.
“We have since finished disbursement for students in Jigawa and Kano states, they have all received their allowances.
“We are now on other institutions across the country. Even we have paid the students in Ahamadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, Usman Danfodio (UDU) Sokoto and Abubakar Tafawa Balewa (ATBU) Bauchi”.
The executive secretary said “So far we have paid over 95 percent of the students. They have all received their allowances, except some with peculiar problems of transaction failures”.
He added that “What we are doing is that, when we receive any complaints of non payment, we will check our bank records to find out what the problem might be.
“Most of the issues have been failed transactions for a dormant account or non account holders etc”.
Malam Magaji expressed gratitude to governor Malam Umar Namadi for his support to the board that has enabled it to carryout its duty successfully.
