Alia lauds Supreme Court decision dismissing petition against his victory
The governor of Benue State Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia has applauded the Supreme court decision that dismisssed the appeal against his victory.
The Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Tersoo Kula in a statement he issued in Makurdi shortly after the Supreme court verdict on Monday, Alia indicated that the Supreme Court’s decision has only reaffirmed the time-honored mantra that power belongs to the people.
The governor said that he has dedicated his victory to the Benue masses and promised that he would continue to deliver on his campaign promises to the people.
In the 2023 general elections, Alia polled 473,933 votes to defeat his closest challenger and candidate of the Peoples Democracy Party (PDP), Titus Uba, who scored 223,913 votes. Candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Herman Hembe, recorded 41,881 votes to come third.
Titus Uba the candidate of the PDP had however challenged Alia’s victory in court over alleged discrepancies in the credentials submitted to the electoral body by his running mate Barr Sam Ode.
