Chief of Army Staff promises to address accommodation deficits in the Army

The Chief of Army Staff, (COAS) Lt.Gen. Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja has given the assurance that he will address the accommodation deficits in the Nigerian Army as part of his command’s philosophy to ensure the welfare of officers and men of the force to enable them discharge their constitutional responsibility.
The Chief of Army Staff gave the assurance at the headquarters of the Training and Doctrine Command of the Nigerian Army in Minna, the Niger state capital on Tuesday when he inaugurated newly built quarters for senior officers of the command.
The newly inaugurated senior officer’s quarters include Major-Generals quarters, Brigadier-Generals quarters and that of the single officer’s quarters.
The inauguration of the residential accommodation for officers of the Training and Doctrine Command was the climax of the Chief of Army Staff engagements in Minna on Tuesday.
He was the special guest of honor at this year’s Training and Doctrine Command merit award to officers who had distinguished themselves during their promotional examinations.
Major-General Lagbaja who was represented at the occasion by the Chief of Training, Army Headquarters, Major-General Sani G. Mohammed disclosed that the Nigerian Army under his leadership has taken the accommodation of officers and men of the force as top priority.
He added that everything is being done to ensure the deficits is reduce to its barest minimum.
He urged the officers to ensure proper management of the houses, stressing that “more are coming; we are determined to address the accommodation deficits among the officers and men of the force. It is one of our major priorities”.
On the merit awards for distinguished officers who had excelled in their promotional examinations organized by TRADDOC, the Army Boss pointed out that his command’s philosophy recognizes hard work and professionalism, adding that the examination is not only to promote officers to the next rank, but to prepare them adequately for their constitutional responsibilities and the task ahead.
“These awards today is meant to encourage junior officers to strive for excellence to improve professionalism inline with my command philosophy which is to train the Nigerian Army into a well motivated force towards achieving our constitutional responsibilities.
“Encourage culture of hard work among officers, promote healthy competition towards high standards of professionalism of the Nigerian Army”.
Earlier the TRADDOC Commander, Major-General Kelvin Aligbe said the annual merit awards was meant to reward excellence, instill the spirit of hardwork and encourage healthy competitions.
Major General Aligbe disclosed that this year’s merit awards was the third having organized similar awards in 2021 and 2022, stressing that “the awards and recognition have become essential as a means of promoting as well as enhancing administrative effiency and professional effectiveness”.
