The women campaign council for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Dino Melaye, will be led by no other person than the Amazon and Kogi Central senatorial candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general elections, Barr. Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

Melaye made the disclosure during an interactive session with PDP women and youths on Wednesday in Lokoja.

He promised to accord women their place of pride in the government that would be formed upon his election and swearing into office.

He added that his respect and recognition of the capacity of women informed the choice of a woman as his running mate ahead of the election.

“This is the first time in the political history of Kogi State where a woman is being nominated to run as a deputy governor, and I know that this will manifest in the name of Almighty God. The PDP today is the only political party in the history of Kogi State that picked a woman, Hajia Habibat Mohammed Deen, as the deputy governorship candidate. It has never happened before now.

“We are the first to show respect for gender. We are the first to say, ‘in politics, our mothers and our daughters are equally important’ so we picked a woman as deputy governorship candidate.

“The PDP is also the first political party to establish and seek to inaugurate a Women Campaign Council. Before now, all political parties do is to have a directorate of women under the campaign council.

“Today we have just released the list of our Women Campaign Council and I am glad to announce to you that the Director-General of the Women Campaign Council is our amiable, wonderful and enlightened Senator-in-Waiting, Barrister Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

“The PDP is also the first political party in Kogi governorship race to make a woman the spokesperson of campaign, Barrister Yemi Olumudi and the spokesperson of the youth campaign, Precious Aliyu

“Also, the PDP, in Kogi State, is the first to constitute a Youth Campaign Council, and you can see the importance we attach to women and youths in our campaign.

“I want to assure you that when we form government, by the special grace of God and your support, the same capacity, the same importance shall be given to women and youths.

“You will have the highest highest number of women-commissioners, the highest number of youth-commissioners in any state in Nigeria, because we recognize the importance of women and youths,” he further assured.

Earlier, the deputy governorship candidate, Hajia Mohammed Deen, said the women and youths will occupy positions of prominence in their administration.

“I will be your representative in the government that would be formed, and I will represent you very well.

“Tell our women that this will be their government because their candidate, Senator Dino Melaye, is gender friendly,” Hajia Mohammed Deen further said.
