By Ahmed Rufa’i, Dutse
A Non Governmental Organization (NGO), Concern Citizens Project (CCP) has commended the effort of the Department of State Services (DSS) in tackling corruption and abuse of office by heads of government agencies in the country.
This was contained in a statement issued in Dutse, JIgawa state by the national coordinator of the group, Amb. Salisu Jajii when he called on the secret security agency to redouble their efforts in supporting genuine war against corruption, abuse of office and impunity in Nigeria.
The group described corruption as the bane of the nation’s development, adding that all hands must be on deck to fight it for peace, progress and prosperity.
The statement explained further that “For fight against corruption to succeed, people of integrity, moral discipline must be saddled with responsibilities to head the anti financial crimes agencies and other related institution for the mission to be achieved”
“People of questionable character, people with cases to answer must be rid of from such institution as they deserved not to be involved in any form of war against corruption “
The statement however commended DSS for the way and manner they are handling the case of former CBN governor Mr Godwin Emifele and that of former EFCC boss, Abdulrasheed Bawa.
“The duo have been charged to court by DSS on alleged cases related to financial crimes and National security, we hope the DSS Director-General, Yusuf Bichi will resist any pressure and intimidation in following this high profile cases to their ‘logical conclusion, for national interest”
“The DSS must not be allowed to be prevented from carrying out their constitutional duty on these matters, because any compromise in such cases, the cost will be enormous capable of bringing this country to its knees.
“It will embolden terrorist sponsors and worse still it will demoralise our security agencies and personnel from discharging their responsibilities”
