Following the sack of the former Managing Director of Abuja Markets Management Limited (AMML) Alh. Abubakar Usman Faruk, by all the shareholders of AMML on Monday, an Acting Managing Director, Engr. Mohammed Abbas Yakubu has mounted the saddle.

Engr. Yakubu’s resumption was heralded with wild celebration by members of staff even as he quickly got off to several meetings and businesses.

On the 14th day of August, 2020 Alhaji Abubakar Usman Faruk who was appointed as the Managing Director of AMML by a letter dated 2nd April, 2009 by the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory was redeployed by the Honourable Minister on 20th August, 2020 to the Department of Human Resources of the Federal Capital Territory Administration.

Upon Alhaji Faruk’s redeployment, he seamlessly handed over to Arc. Ibrahim Uzaibat, who occupied the position as Acting Managing Director until he retired in February, 2022 and was succeeded by Engr. Mohammed Abbas Yakubu.

However, about two years after his redeployment, in March, 2023 Alh. Faruk filed a suit at the National Industrial Court of Nigeria challenging his redeployment and seeking to be reinstated which case is still pending and comes up on 20th July, 2023.
In April, 2023 he filed another suit at the Federal High Court Abuja seeking to be reinstated.

Despite the challenge by lawyers to AMML that he was seeking the same relief of reinstatement at the National Industrial Court of Nigeria for that reason the suit was an abuse of the process of the honourable court, the Federal High Court dismissed the objection and entered judgment in favour Alh. Faruk.

Armed with the order of the Federal High Court, Alh. Abubakar Usman Faruk went to AMML on Thursday, 13th July, 2023 and took over the management of the company.

Aggrieved by the action of Alh. Abubakar Usman Faruk, the shareholders of the company terminated his appointment on Monday, 17th July, 2023 and directed him to handover all company property in his possession. The letter signed by the Group Managing Director of AICL, assured Alh. Faruk of the payment of his one-month salary in lieu of notice which he is to receive upon handing over all company property in his possession.
