Group applauds Tinubu Over Service Chiefs Appointment
A Civil Society Organisation based in the nation’s capital, has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the swift appointment of Service Chiefs to head the various security formations in the country.
The group, Coalition for Equity and Good Governance, made the commendation in a world press conference in Abuja, where they described the development as a clear departure from past administrations where sensitive positions are left vacant after the exit of their predecessors.
The National Coordinator of the group, Mallam Abubakar Ibrahim, maintained that the prompt appointment was a clear indication of President Tinubu’s commitment towards addressing the security challenges bedevilling the country.
The Coordinator, while also commending the President for ensuring that equity and competence was observed in the appointment of the new service chiefs, urged the appointees to work together to rid Nigeria off the menace of banditry and insurgency.
“The President has hitherto made commitment to Nigerians that religion and ethnicity will not find a place in his government, but competence and character will. And he has just demonstrated that in his recent appointments”, Abubakar stressed.
While congratulating the newly appointed Military Chiefs, he reminded them that the task ahead of them was enormous, as the safety and security of over 200 million Nigerians lies in their hands and would not hesitate to call them out if they fail to deliver.
Recall that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, had on Monday, June 19th, 2023, approved the immediate retirement of all Service Chiefs and the Inspector-General of Police, Advisers, Comptroller-General of Customs from Service as well as their replacements with immediate effect.
A statement from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, also announced the appointment of Maj. Gen. Christopher Musa as the new Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) and Maj.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja as Chief of Army Staff.
Tinubu also appointed Rear Adm. E.A Ogalla as Chief of Naval Staff and Air Vice Marshal Hassan Abubakar, as Chief of the Air Staff, while Maj. Gen. Emmanuel Undiandeye was appointed Chief of Defence Intelligence among others.
Also appointed is Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, as the new National Security Adviser, DIG Kayode Egbetokun, Acting Inspector-General of Police and Adeniyi Bashir Adewale as the Ag. Comptroller General of Customs.

Obidient Movement Denounces Fake Social Media Posts Targeting Senator Datti-Baba Ahmed
The Obidient Movement, led by Dr. Yunusa Tanko, has issued a press statement condemning the circulation of false social media posts attributed to Senator Datti-Baba Ahmed. The fabricated posts, which have gone viral, are described as part of a deliberate smear campaign aimed at damaging the Senator’s reputation.
The movement clarified that Senator Datti-Baba Ahmed does not operate any social media accounts, making all attributed posts entirely baseless. During a recent press conference, the Senator unequivocally dissociated himself from these claims and urged the public to disregard them.
“This is a targeted attempt to tarnish the Senator’s image and credibility,” Dr. Tanko stated.
The Obidient Movement has called on its supporters and the public to remain vigilant and proactive in addressing the issue. They urged people to ignore, counter, and report the false posts whenever they appear.
The statement concluded with an appeal for continued support and collaboration in combating misinformation, reinforcing the movement’s commitment to truth and integrity.

Senate endorses Omolola Oloworaran as PENCOM Director-General
The Senate has endorsed the nomination of Omolola Oloworaran as the substantive Director-General of the National Pension Commission (PENCOM).
President Bola Tinubu had nominated Oloworaran for the position and sought Senate approval through a formal request.
Her confirmation followed the adoption of a report by the Senate Committee on Establishment and Public Service, presented during Thursday’s plenary session.
The committee’s chairman, Senator Cyril Fasuyi (APC, Ekiti North), stated that Oloworaran met all legal and professional requirements as outlined in the Pension Reform Act 2014. He emphasized that she fulfilled the criteria stipulated under sections 19(2), (5), (6), and 26 of the Act, qualifying her for the role.
“The nominee has demonstrated competence and meets the legal prerequisites for this position. The committee finds her to be a fit and proper person for appointment as Director-General of PENCOM,” Senator Fasuyi said.
During the session, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin put the committee’s recommendation to a voice vote, which received overwhelming support from the senators.
Oloworaran’s confirmation ensures continued leadership at PENCOM, an agency critical to Nigeria’s pension administration and reform initiatives.

Edo Governor Okpebholo Appoints Gani Audu as Chief of Staff
Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has announced the appointment of Hon. Gani Audu as Chief of Staff, with the appointment taking immediate effect.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor Fred Itua, made the disclosure through a press Statement on Thursday.
According to the statement the Secretary to the State Government, Musa Umar Ikhilor, who made the announcement described Audu’s new role as integral to advancing Governor Okpebholo’s reform agenda for the state.
The statement reads: “It is hereby announced for the information of the general public, particularly the good people of Edo State, that His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, Governor of Edo State, has approved the appointment of Hon. Gani Audu as his Chief of Staff. The appointment takes immediate effect.”
Hon. Audu, born on August 18, 1969, brings a rich background in governance and administration to his new role. A graduate of Auchi Polytechnic with an HND (1994), he went on to complete a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration from Benson Idahosa University (2011) and an M.Sc. in Intelligence and Global Security from Baze University, Abuja (2024).
Audu’s political experience spans nearly two decades. He served as Chairman of Etsako West Local Government Council from 2004 to 2010, represented Etsako West Constituency 1 in the Edo State House of Assembly from 2015 to 2023, and was the All Progressives Congress (APC) deputy governorship candidate in the 2020 Edo State elections.
This strategic appointment is expected to bolster the governor’s administrative team and support his vision of transformative governance in Edo State.
