Jigawa NLC Chair debunks alleged support for Fuel Subsidy removal

The Chairman JIgawa state chapter of the Nigeria Labor Congress (NLC), Comrade Sunusi Alhassan Maigatari hascountered earlier statement by the branch secretary, Mr Jide Tanko that the congress is poised to giving support to removal of fuel subsidy by June this year.

The state chairman spoke while briefing newsmen on the congress’s preparation for the 2023 International Workers day celebration in the state on Monday, May, 1st.

Comrade Maigatari explained that “the decision to support or not to support subsidy removal is being handled by the national body of the congress (NLC Abuja).

According to him “The secretary’s statement is full of errors and misrepresentations for which he is of the believe he made unintentionally. It is not representing the state branch”.

He added that the secretary ordinarily should not comment on anything without due consultations with major stakeholders on many issues especially if it is not dealing with administration of the organization.

Commenting of the plans and preparation for 2023 international Workers day celebration, Comrade Alhassan disclosed that not less than 40 workers and trade union associations have been mobilized by the JIgawa state branch of the Nigerian Labor Congress (NLC) for the celebration of the 2023 International Workers day in the state.

He said, beside the trade union, they also invited the state governor Alhaji Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, politicians, Religious and Traditional leaders, Civil societies , friends and well-wishers to join labor in celebrating the day.

Comrade Maigatari added that, the Theme of this year celebration: “Working towards enhancing the Social and Economic well-being of Workers” described it as timely considering the social and economic instability in the country.

Maigatari explained that, the union is going to use the occasion to review workers’ well-being and their working conditions, engage all stakeholders for way forward on improving their working condition for effective public service delivery.

“We are at a cross road now, as the incoming government is few days away when it will come on board in the state, we appreciate our cordial relationship with outgoing government in the last eight years and we hope the incoming administration will continue from where it’s predecessor stop”.

“In the last eight years Jigawa state became a reference point in terns of timely payment of workers salary, pension and other entitlements, we have confidence that the incoming governor who has been part of the government will maintained the tempo” Sanusi declared.

He however reiterated the commitment of the union to pursue the welfare of workers and equally promote moral discipline, hardwork, professionalism and sincerity among the workers for peace and progress of Jigawa state and Nigeria at large.
