The Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) South-South Youth Vanguard, has urged the party to zone the Leadership of the Minority Caucus in the 10th House of Reps to the South-west for equity and balancing.

The youth vanguard in a statement on Thursday in Abuja, indicated that the call became necessary based on the need to forge a common front by giving the zone a sense of belonging in the main opposition party.

The statement which was signed by Mr. James Akpofure, national youth director of the South-South Youth Vanguard, said with desperate voices in the quest for the leadership of the Minority Caucus, only the south-west has demonstrated maturity and sanity besides the issues of equity and inclusion.

“It is a shame how some individuals and zones have gone about the leadership of the Minority Caucus and trying to cause confusion by prematurely seeking to corner offices in the 10th House of Reps.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the party as the main opposition, has well-laid structure for the emergence of principal officers in the Minority Caucus of the National Assembly.

“The party must move fast by stating its position which should be the south-west and avoid a repeat of the confusion that characterised the choice of principal leaders of the Minority Caucus of the 9th Assembly.

“The PDP needs to reward members of the south-west zone in the party that their loyalty, sacrifice and contributions are not in vain. They are lawmakers-elect from the south-west with requisite legislative experience for the Office of Minority Leader,” Akpofure stated.

He stressed that as committed members of the PDP and working to ensure that the party stays relevant and responsive, the group will continue to agitate for the right thing to be done in the party.
