South-South PDP Youths describe call for Anyanwu’s resignation as mischievous
A youth group within the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) South-South Youth Vanguard, has described as premature call for the resignation of the National Secretary and governorship candidate of the party in Imo state, Senator Samuel Anyanwu.
The youth vanguard in a statement on Saturday said the call by another youth group, PDP Young Democrats, was reckless, lacking in constitutional legitimacy of the party and sponsored by desperate politicians to cause confusion.
The statement signed by Mr. James Akpofure, national youth director of the South-South Youth Vanguard, said the party’s constitutional remains the sole authority on the administration of the PDP including how national officers can resign from office.
“It is a shame that barely few days after the emergence of our party’s National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu (Sam Daddy) in a free, transparent and credible primaries, enemies within and without have resorted to underhand tactics to create chaos and cause confusion by prematurely calling for his resignation as national secretary.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the party has a well-laid structure for national officers to resign and those desperate for the office should allow due process to follow,” Akpofure stated.
He alleged that they were not unaware of those behind the destabilization plot and warned them to desist or be ready to be named and shamed.
“As committed members of the PDP and working to ensure that we take back Imo State, fifth columnists are warned to stay off our party or be ready to be named and shamed. There will be no room for political merchants and their minions as we work to reclaim the party’s stolen mandate almost four years ago,” the statement warned.
Akpofure further added that as a candidate and party man, Senator Anyanwu would not derail the party’s objectives and would resign at the appropriate time.
