Like late Adasu, Fr. Alia repeats history, wins as Benue Governor

Candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Benue State, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia, has been declared winner of the March 18 poll and the Governor-Elect by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)History is being repeated with his victory coming barely after over three decades when Very Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu of blessed memory became governor of Benue State, Nigeria, on 2nd January 1992, elected on the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).He left office after the military coup in November 1993, which brought General Sani Abacha to power.

This time around Rev. Fr. Alia won with 473,933 votes ahead of his closest rival and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Titus Uba, who scored 223,913.

The Returning Office, Prof Faruq Kuta and Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna declared Alia the winner.

Alia, who is a member of the ruling APC, is expected to take over from Governor Samuel Ortom of the PDP.
