Christian Clerics commend Obi, Atiku for exploring legal window, say its their right
Christian Clerics under the aegis of Christian Leaders Conference of Nigeria (CLCN) and Clerics Congress of Nigeria (CCN) have commended the Labour Party’s (LP) Presidential candidate Peter Obi and his counterpart in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Atiku Abubakar for choosing the part of peace by opting to explore the legal window in contesting the outcome of the Presidential election. The group who were among about 5000 clerics that stood up to be counted as christians that declared support for the controversial Muslim-Muslim ticket of the APC just before the election gathered in Abuja over the weekend to congratulate the President elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The coordinator of the group, Pastor Peter Abraham said,”We want to commend the candidate that said he is going to court, honestly speaking, it is a decent approach to the electoral processes because the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria grants him that right and he is well within his rights constitutionally speaking, legally speaking to go to the courts.
“Our encouragement is that his supporters, his followers, are about six million Nigerians who said yes to him to be President of Nigeria, so we don’t see him as a joker.
“It is part of the electoral process. We encourage what he has said, what is left for us as clergymen is to pray and to continue to pray. Yes, we are here to congratulate Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu but we also know he is a democrat.
“He is also a person who has used the courts before. We don’t even think he will be opposed to that. So we are not against those who wants to go court.
“The only apprehension is if there is any other person who does not want to go to court but rather want to go to the streets, we will like to encourage such person that it is outside the ambience of the law and as men of God we plead with him and in the name of the God to maintain peace not only at the Presidential level.
“I am sure some persons who were not elected to be Senators, not elected to the House of reps may also feel that way, the door is opened to them, we will keep praying for them. That is our joint response.”
Pastor Abraham, said the Tinubu/Shettima Presidency should come up with formidable economic team whose policies should help in tackling the rising problem of unemployment in the country .
“We are not out for over agenda setting for an administration that is yet to be formed but happy that people with the required vision and competence , are coming on board .
“For Nigerians, our appeal to them, is that what should be prominent in our hearts now, should be Nigeria and not religion or any other sentiments”, he said .
