The House of Representatives has denounced the assassination Ummukulthum Buhari, also known as Ummita, in Kano state, for which the green chamber has asked the IGP Usman Baba to ensure a thorough investigation is carried out
This was coming on a motion of urgent public significance moved by Kabiru Rurum, a member of the House, during the Wednesday’s plenary.
Rurum said, “The deceased was a corps member serving in Sokoto State. The House is worried that it took Mr Geng more than an hour to force himself into the room of the deceased (which) shows that the attack and subsequent killing of the deceased person was a well thought out plan by Mr Geng.”
The lawmaker expressed concern that five days after the murder, the Nigeria Police Force had yet to come out with a preliminary report on its investigation.
Rurum said that since the deceased’s family members, Kano residents, and Nigerians as a whole were demanding justice, the matter should be handled more seriously.
The House agreed to the motion and decided to hold a moment of silence in memory of the deceased while pleading with Usman Baba, the inspector general of police, to “order a thorough investigation into the brutal murder.”
The House also asked the Chinese ambassador to Nigeria and the Chinese community in Kano State to “cooperate with the administration and people of Kano State and Nigeria”
The red chamber also demanded that the alleged Chinese man’s immigration status be determined.
Meanwhile the 47-year-old Chinese man named Geng Quanrong has been remanded in custody after being charged with the murder of his ex-girlfriend Ummukulthum Buhari, also known as Ummita, in the state.
The Kano State Police Command charged Quanrong on Wednesday with killing Buhari, a 23-year-old Ugandan graduate of the Kampala University’s Agriculture Science program.
A senior state attorney K. A. Hashim,
who represented the prosecution, requested that the defendant be held in custody until the Office of the Attorney-General of Kano State issues a legal advice.
Hanif Yusuf, the chief magistrate, granted the request and postponed the case until October 13.
It could recall that on Saturday, the Chinese assassin stabbed late Buhari to death after following her to her family’s home in Kano.
