    103 sanitation offenders arrested In Nasarawa

    The Chief prosecuting officer on sanitation exercise, Nasarawa State Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, Mr. Abubakar Mohammed on Saturday said the enforcement team has arrested 103 offenders for violation of sanitation laws.

    He made this known to Journalist shortly after the August sanitation exercise in Lafia the state capital.

    Muhammad explained that the voilators were arrested by sanitation enforcement team across the 13 Local Government Areas of the state for carrying out their businesses while the sanitation exercise was ongoing.

    Mohammed said that the offences violated the provisions of Section 9 (2) of the State Environmental Sanitation Law.

    He explained that the offenders were prosecuted by various Mobile Courts across the state to serve as deterrent to others.

    Also speaking Hon. Yakubu Kwanta, the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources expressed satisfaction over the level of compliance.

    Kwanta, however explained that about 90 percent of the residents complied by closing their shops and businesses to participate in the exercise.

    He appealed to citizens to take advantage of the exercise to clean up their surrounding and clear blockages that may cause flooding.
