Nigerian youths must rise up to take up leadership responsibility in order to chart a new course for good governance in the country, former Enugu State Governor and Senator representing Enugu East in the Senate, Dr. Chimaroke Nnamani has admonished.
August 12 every year has been declared by the United Nations
as international youths day to address global issues concerning youths as well as the advocacy “to achieve sustainable development goals(SDGs), by leveraging on the full potential of all generations”
The UN also pointed out that Solidarity across generations is key for sustainable development to foster successful and equitable inter generational relations and partnerships to ensure no one is left behind .
Senator Nnamani who is representing Enugu East in the Senate in a solidarity message to commemorate this year’s International Youth Day told the youths to take leadership responsibilities through the democratic processes just as he reminded them of the need for inter generational collaboration to tackle global issues.
In doing so, he told them to deploy their energies, intellects and skills towards positive engagements.
He acknowledged the exploits and accomplishments of Nigerian youths in many fields of human endeavours especially in science and information Technology as he asked them to put their knowledge into positive ventures.
The former Governor expressed the believe that Nigerian youths have the solutions to the myriads of socio- economic and political challenges if given the opportunity.
He however cautioned against criminal activities or vices that could undermine their pursuit for excellence saying “there are many decent ways of earning a living without involving in any illegal activities”.
He urged the Government to continue to provide the enabling environment for youths to realize their potentials .
The theme of this year’s International Youth Day is “ Intergenerational Solidarity; A key to inclusive and sustainable political participation”.
He wished the Nigerian youths a successful celebration.
