The Nasarawa State Government has expressed satisfaction with compliance by members of the public during the July sanitation exercise.

The Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Mr. Yakubu Kwantae, represented by the chief environmental officer in the ministry, Abubakar Mohammed gave the commendation while addressing journalists after the sanitation exercise on Saturday in Lafia.

The Commissioner described the level of compliance as Commendable as he urged them to keep it up.

He also expressed happiness with owners of houses and shops for clearing drainages around their environments thereby reducing flooding incidence in the state.

Yakubu indicated that the state government had strengthened the capacity of the inspectors in all the 13 Local Government Areas for more efficiency.

He called on members of the public to always keep their environment clean to guard against the outbreak of diseases.

“If the environment is clean, it will guard against any possible outbreak of diseases, thereby ensuring improved healthy living of the people,’’ the commissioner said.

The commissioner however said Nasarawa state would sustain its status of cleanliness, as the government has set aside last Saturday of every month for sanitation exercises.

Meanwhile, 10 persons suspected to have violated environmental sanitation laws in Lafia were arrested and prosecuted.
