PVC: CNG stages sensitisation walk in Minna
By Abubakar Hassan
Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has staged a roadwalk in Minna, to sensitize the public on the importance of the Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) to the socio-political and economic development of Nigeria.
The sensitization walk took off from the Minna city gate through Tunga area terminating at the famous Mobil Round-About in the heart of Minna.
Addressing the participants after the seven kilometer road walk, the director strategic communication of CNG, Ismaila Musa said getting PVC is a fundamental right of every citizen, hence the need to sensitize them since it is through the use of the PVC that they will be able to express their yearnings and aspirations with regards to the kind of leadership they desired.
He expressed concern that people are a little bit relaxed in terms of PVC collection and also voting during election saying that with the sensitization drive people will become more conscientized to know the importance of the PVC.
He added that Nigeria is presently left behind in terms of development saying that the only way to put it on the right track is through acquisition of the PVC and using it to vote for the candidates of their choices.
The CNG director of communication also urged the youths to participate actively in Politics, saying the country belongs to them hence they should not allow those who have had their own time to hijack the leadership from them and put the country in a deep mess that cannot be corrected even in the next 50 years.
“It is important for you to believe that Nigeria is our country and the only way for us to take it back is by voting for the right leaders.” he added.
According to him the sensitization which started in Katsina state
will go round all the 19 northern states, saying Niger State is second from where they would be proceeding to Benue state.
He indicated that whenever they gathered for such events there are local government coordinators of the movement who take the message down to the grassroots.
Musa added that sensitizing the public on the importance of PVC is beyond the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) because it is a Nigeria project, saying INEC can only play complementary role and expressed optimism that more NGOs will also join in educating their members on the importance of PVC.
Also, the Director Political Affairs of CNG, Comrade Mohammed Abdullahi Mohammed disclosed that INEC report of 11th July, 2022 indicated that Niger State is the third lowest in PVC collection chart which according to him was warrisome to organizations such as the CNG, hence the rationale behind the awareness and sensitization walk.
He disclosed that officials of the national body of the movement moved down to Niger state to join forces with that of the state chapter under the leadership of Comrade Abdullahi Musa Erena to create awareness and sensitize the public on the need to register and collect their PVC.
“According to INEC there are about 20,000 unclaimed PVCs lying fallow in their offices accross the state which Nigerlites didn’t come to collect.
“Therefore it is expedient for us to create awareness hence reason we have come out to the streets to remind our leaders, our parents and brothers and sisters that for them to get good leadership they must have their PVC,” he explained.
He added that the sensitization was an all out sensitization to mobilize people who are 18 years and above, that are yet to register or collect their PVC to go and do so for the betterment of the country.
The theme of the sensitization walk is “Get Your PVC To Rescue And Rebuild Nigeria.” The CNG Board of Trustees chairman, Dr. Nastura Ashir Sharif led the delegation from the national Secretariat.
