APC is disturbed over gale of defections, says national party chair
The national chairman of the All Progressives Party (APC) Abdullahi Adamu has indicated that the party is worried over the gale of defections that have befallen it in recent weeks
Not less than 8 senators have dumped the ruling party officially including the Senate majority leader and the minority leader.
At the House of representatives more than 25 lawmakers have also jumped the boat from the ruling party.
Most of the lawmakers jumping the boat gave similar reasons that have to do with the overbearing influence of their governors who control the party structure to feather their selfish agenda.
Speaking to newsmen on Wednesday after a meeting with the APC caucus of the National Assembly, the national chairman said it is the season of defections.
He said the meeting with lawmakers of the party’s fold was most fruitful,
According to him, the new wave whereby senator of the ruling party are leaving in droves for elsewhere has been very disturbing,
“It is an unfortunate development when it happens but this is a season for all manner of behaviour in the political space in the country and Nigeria is not an exception.
“In every election year this kind of subs step give cause for people, stakeholders to sneeze. Nigeria is not an exception and the APC is not an exception, so i don’t give a damn what is happening in other parties I care about what is happening in our party.
“You and me know that it is not just APC that this thing is happening.
Because we are the ruling party, yes our problems are more prominent in the public glare.
“No responsible leader would not worry losing one member not to talk of two, three. At the moment we are faced with the stark reality of their problems but we are committed, with my colleagues in the National Working Committee to face the problems squarely to see if the problems are solvable to solve them by the grace of God.
When reminded that most of the decamping members raised issues about the injustice in the party at their state levels, and what he is going to do to stem the tide so that it will not happen again as the chairman of the party he said, he said there is no guarantee, “we are in politics for Gods sake I don’t know what will happen tomorrow. How can I foresee tomorrow I am not the person who saw tomorrow.”
