The Ugwumba Center for Leadership Development in Nigeria has taken up the enormous task of rebranding the battered image of Nigeria outside the shores of the country.
The President of the center Ugwumba Uche Nwosu spoke when he led a powerful delegation of his team on a partnership meeting with the USAID Mission in Nigeria recently.
Addressing the USAID Mission Director represented by Beth Brownson, Nwosu told the USAID team that the foundation took up the enormous task because the government cannot handle it alone.
He said that the Rebrand Nigeria Campaign has two major components, which are projects targeting Nigerians living within the country and those living in Diaspora.
According to him, “Those living in Diaspora should know that they are Ambassadors of Nigeria in whichever countries they find themselves and should endeavour to obey the laws of their host countries as well as conduct themselves in ways that will promote a good image for the country.”
He spoke extensively on the impact the Center is making in the empowerment of Nigerian youths through training, grant awards and mentorship.
He indicated that young entrepreneurs and innovators who participated in the pitching and grant competitions codenamed the Ugwumba Enterprise Challenge at the Owerri and Abuja editions have created over 1000 businesses and enterprises
Adding his voice, the Executive Director, Remy Chukwunyere declared that the Ugwumba Leadership Center has special expertise in project planning and implementation and is ready to partner with the USAID Mission to better the lots of the Nigerian people.
In her response, Beth Brownson who represented the Director of the Mission at the partnership meeting commended the efforts of the Ugwumba Center for Leadership Development in Africa for such wonderful impacts it is making to improve the socio-economic well being of the people of Nigeria, especially in the job creation sector.
She lamented that Nigeria, as a country would have been like the USA and the UAE if all the monies made in Nigeria are invested back into the country. She therefore called on the Ugwumba Leadership Center to remain focused in the implementation of its leadership and enterprise development programs and promised that the USAID Mission will partner with the center to ensure that more impacts are made across the country.
Other members of the delegation were Uche Nnadozie, Okeoma Nwosu, Josephat Okafor and Otori Gloria.
