The President of the senate Ahmad Lawan on Tuesday indicated that he is the best man for the job with all the experiences he has garnered over 23 years in the National Assembly from the House of Representatives to the Senate where he is currently the presiding officer.
Speaking to newsmen after his screening on Tuesday Lawan spoke with a confidence of a man who is sure of victory no matter the odds referring to himself as the candidate even before the primary election
He said, “when next I speak to you, I will be speaking as the candidate and touch nearer of the APC.’
On the screening, he said,
“I was asked fundamental questions about what our party stands for and what I believe I can bring to the Presidency of Nigeria. Our party stands for progress, national stability and what we have done in the last seven years.
“As an administration we have recorded so much successes across the country but we also had some challenges that we had to deal with and as someone who is aspiring to be the candidate of APC and by the grace of God President of Nigeria 2023.
“I have worked before I came to the national Assembly in 1999, and 1999i came to the national and I am still in the national Assembly having served 8 years in the House of Representatives and chair the two important committee of Agriculture and education in the House.
“I was also chairman public account committee for 8 years in the senate, and chairman of different committees in the senate, I served as senate leader in the senate and and the President of the senate today. I have worked very closely with the President in my capacity as senate leader and as President of the senate “I know the issues of development, I know where we have have recorded so much successes, I know where have to rework, retool and felt our systems and strategies and operations and by the grace of God if I am given the opportunity Nigeria will experience improved education, improved security, improved economy and I want to reform the educational sector because I want to see an educational sector that serves the sons and daughters of nobody si we are able to take away from the street the 15m children out of school because I am sure this has links with not only education but security and economy.
“I want to see I come out as the elected candidate to beat PDP and other parties to win the Presidency for APC and for Nigeria.
On what he will do if the party decides to adopt consensus he said,
“We are sons and daughters of the same father and the same mother all of us who took the form to run for the highest office believes in idles and philosophy of our party therefore we are one and the same so I will support anybody who emerges as the President.”
