Another tragedy occured in Benue on Wednesday when Fulani terrorists
continued with their massacre of Tiv farmers in the Guma local government area of the state.
Chief Press Secretary to the Governor Nathaniel Ikyur in a statement said the latest attack which claimed several lives took place at Ye village, along Daudu-Gbajimba road in Guma Local Government Area.

The assailants also attacked branch Udei and killed more than four people and injured many who have been taken to nearby health centre.

The Fulani gunmen who invaded the villages in the early hours were said to have crossed over from a neighbouring state into Benue to wreck the unprovoked murder on the villagers.

Eyewitness account said the Fulani terrorists who had earlier issued a threat to the Tse Torkula community, asking them to leave the village or face dire consequences came on motorcycles and without any herd of cattle.

Torkula is the ancestral home of the late Tor Tiv IV, HRM Alfred Akawe Torkula.

The invaders were said to have first of all shot sporadically into the air before breaking into the houses of their victims who were already fast asleep.

There have been renewed Fulani terrorist attacks on border communities in Benue State with heavy casualties on the Benue side.

Suspected Fulani militia on Tuesday, March 8th, 2022 killed over five persons in the Ahentse, Nzorov council ward of Benue State and wounded many now receiving treatment in nearby hospitals.

Governor Samuel Ortom while reacting to the recent attack, reiterated his call on the federal government to step up security operations along the crises areas of the state.

He cautioned that “the patience of the people who are now victims and rendered homeless by the murderous activities of the Fulani militia should not be tested any longer.
“We should not push the victims into looking for self-help because this will not be good for the unity of this country.”

He added, “I have repeatedly called on the federal government to convoke a national security summit of all ethnic nationalities to find lasting solutions to the increasing wave of terrorism that is gradually tearing up the bond in our nation. And I repeat that this is the time.”

Munya local government area council chairman

The Chairman of Munya Local Government, Niger State, Mallam Aminu Najume, has confirmed the abduction of his Council Secretary, Mr. Daina Usman, in a Thursday night attack by bandits at his residence in Sarkin Pawa, the local government headquarters.

Najume, speaking to reporters on Friday, revealed that Usman was kidnapped alongside his wife and three other family members around 10:30 p.m. However, the Secretary managed to escape midway through the journey, while his wife and relatives remain in captivity.
As at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, no contact had been made with the victims or their abductors.

The Chairman expressed frustration over the military’s lack of response, stating that Usman’s residence is just 500 meters from a military base. Despite heavy gunfire during the attack, security forces failed to intervene.

“It is shocking and disappointing that such an attack happened so close to a military post, yet there was no response. Residents heard the gunshots, but the soldiers did nothing,” Najume lamented.
He recalled raising similar concerns in the past about security personnel failing to act during attacks in the area.

Najume attributed the resurgence of banditry in Munya to a peace deal between the Kaduna State government and armed groups, which has pushed criminals into Niger communities.
He noted that Munya shares a border with Chikun Local Government in Kaduna, from where the bandits infiltrate to wreak havoc.

He also recalled the mass abduction of over 150 people from Kuchi community in August 2024, where ₦30 million and six motorcycles were reportedly paid as ransom for their release after two months in captivity.

The latest attack has heightened fear among residents of Sarkin Pawa, who worry that the relative peace they had been enjoying may now be over.
