Kogi Varsity gets 17 new professors, 15 Readers, Convocates 19,000

Prince Abubakar Audu University(PAAU), Anyigba, formerly Kogi State University, has confirmed the promotion of 17 new professors and 15 Readers cutting across departments and faculties of the university.

Prof. Marietu Tenuche, Vice Chancellor of the University disclosed this at the 6th Convocation Press Briefing of the Institution on Thursday in Anyigba.

Tenuche said the promotion of the new professors was confirmed by the Governing Council at the 59th Regular Meeting in December, 2021.

The Vice-Chancellor hinted that six of the professors were promoted in October, 2019 while the remaining 11 had their promotion taking effect from October, 2020.

She described the moment as historic for the university as it was the first time in the history of the Institution that such a large number of senior academic were promoted to the professorial rank.

On the Convocation, Tenuche said the Institution was convocating over 19,000 graduands covering 2005, 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2015 were convocating.

She attributed the inability of the university to hold the convocation to the invasion of the global pandemic, Covid-19 in 2020.

Tenuche who is the fifth and the first female Vice Chancellor of the University appointed from within said the Institution under her leadership had attained high level development in all spheres.

On accreditation of courses, she said that the university had recorded huge success in securing full accreditation for all the 48 programmes being run by the Institution.

“In addition to the outstanding performances in the NUC and NIAS accreditation exercises, our result in the last Bar examination result was simply captivating.

“All the students presented for the Council of Legal Education Bar final examinations, with the exception of one candidate that had a carry-over, passed.

“Most importantly, for the third consecutive time in the last three years, one of our law graduates made a first class”, she enthused.

She hinted that the university in the recent ranking released by the NUC, emerged 25 out of the 170 Public and Private Universities in the country that have full accreditation for all courses on offer.

The Vice Chancellor announced that three eminent Nigerians would be conferred with honorary doctorate degrees (honoris causa) of the University as five major projects would be inaugurated.

The personalities include Governor Yahaya Bello, the Executive Governor of Kogi State and Visitor to the University; Alhaji (Dr) Dahiru Barau Mangal, an industrialist and philanthropist, and Alhaji Jibrin Isah (Echocho), Senator representing Kogi East in the National Assembly.

The VC expressed gratitude to the almighty God, the Visitor, Gov. Yahaya Bello, members of the University Governing Council, Senate and the entire Congregation for their support. (Ends)
