A faction of the African Democratic Congress aligned with former presidential candidate Dumebi Kachikwu has unveiled plans to convene a National Convention aimed at repositioning the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued in Abuja and signed by the acting Chairman of the party’s National Working Committee, Kingsley Ogga.
According to the statement, the convention is expected to attract delegates, party stakeholders, youth and women leaders, state executives, political observers and supporters from across the country as the party seeks to strengthen its national structure.
The Kachikwu-led camp said the gathering would focus on rebuilding internal cohesion, deepening democratic values within the party and laying out strategies for a stronger outing in the 2027 polls.
Among the major highlights of the convention are the inauguration and ratification of National Working Committee members, consultations on party primaries, expansion of grassroots structures and discussions on nationwide mobilisation efforts.
The statement added that participants would also deliberate on governance, political reforms, inclusion of young people and women in leadership, as well as the ADC’s vision for Nigeria’s democratic future.
Describing the convention as a turning point for the party, the faction said the move signals its determination to emerge as a credible alternative force in the country’s political landscape ahead of the next general elections.
The organisers also urged party faithful, civil society groups, members of the public and the media to participate in the event.
