A coalition of Nigerian youths under the umbrella of the Coalition of Nigerian Youths for Democracy and Good Governance has called on President Bola Tinubu to urgently intervene in the continued detention of Alhaji Abdullahi Bello Bodejo, national leader of the Miyetti Allah Kautal Kore socio-cultural group.
Bodejo, who recently declared interest to contest the Taraba Central Senatorial seat, was reportedly arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) in Taraba State and later transferred to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), where he has remained in detention since 8 May 2026.
In a letter addressed to the President, the group’s National Coordinator, Comrade Olatunji Olawole, urged what he described as a compassionate and urgent intervention for Bodejo’s “prompt and unconditional release.”
He said thousands of supporters across the country were in “deep pain and emotional distress” over the continued detention of the Fulani socio-cultural leader.
The coalition described Bodejo as a loyal political ally of the All Progressives Congress (APC), alleging that he played a key role in mobilising support for President Tinubu and the party during the 2023 general elections, often at personal sacrifice.
According to the group, Bodejo’s decision to contest for the senatorial seat was driven by a desire to serve his constituency and strengthen grassroots political participation within the party.
It further stated that his arrest on the day of his declaration in Jalingo, Taraba State, has raised concerns among supporters and associates who have continued to demand clarity and fairness in the handling of his case.
The coalition also argued that Bodejo enjoys strong influence among Fulani youths and pastoral communities across northern Nigeria, where he is regarded by many as a symbol of leadership, unity and advocacy.
They called on the federal government to ensure justice, fairness and due process in resolving the matter, insisting that his continued detention has generated widespread anxiety among his supporters nationwide.
