FCT Area Councils, Stakeholders Get N3.05b as October allocation
The six Area Councils in the Federal Capital Territory and other stakeholders have received the sum of N3,049,291,338.40 as its share of statutory allocation for the month of October, 2022.
Special Adviser Media to the Minister, Austine Elemue in a statement indicated the FCT Minister of State, Dr. Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu, presided over the 171st Joint Account Allocation Committee (JAAC), meeting held in her office.
The minister who was represented by the FCTA Permanent Secretary, Mr. Olusade Adesola, expressed concern over the seemingly poor sanitation conditions in the satellite towns.
She observed that lack of synergy between the Satellite Towns Development Department and the Area Council Authorities could be responsible for the poor sanitation in the various area councils across the territory.

She, therefore, directed the Satellite Towns Development Department to furnish the area council authorities with the list of cleaning contractors to enable them know the contractors responsible in each area.
However, a breakdown of the figures released during the JAAC meeting indicate that the sum of N766,913,655.48 was made available for distribution to the six area councils, while the sum of N2,282,377,682.92 was made available to other stakeholders, bringing the total sum to N3,049,291,338.40billion.
Similarly, distributions to area councils shows that the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), received N159,351,641.67million, while Gwagwalada got N116,125,942.16 and Kuje received N153,596,556.15
Other area councils include, Bwari Area Council which received N113,203,597.88million, Abaji got N119,176,489.46million while Kwali received N105,459,428.16million, bringing the total sum to N766,913,655.48million disbursed to the six area councils.
On the other hand, distribution to other critical stakeholders include: Primary School Teachers which gulped N1,917,556,374.33billion, 15 percent Pension Funds took N226,478,989.57million, One percent Training Fund gulped N30,492,913.39, while 10 percent Employer Pension Contribution gulped N107,849,405.63, bringing the total sum to N2,282,377,682.92.
Those present at the 171st Joint Account Allocation Committee (JAAC) meeting include the FCTA Permanent Secretary, Mr. Olusade Adesola, Mandate Secretary Area Council Services, Hon. Ibrahim Abubakar Dantsoho, and FCT representative in Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission, Mallam Abubakar Hussain.
Others include the chairman Abaji Area Council, Hon. Abubakar Abdullahi, Chairman of Kwali Area Council, Hon. Danladi Chiya, Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council, Hon. Christopher Zaka, Chairman of Bwari Area Council, Hon. John Gabaya, Chairman of Kuje Area Council, Hon. Abdullahi Sabo, Vice Chairman of Gwagwalada Area Council, Hon. Saidu Abdullahi, amongst others.

Bwari Council Boss Pledges Continued Support for NSCDC to Enhance Security
The Executive Chairman of Bwari Area Council, Hon. (Dr.) John Gabaya, has reassured the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) FCT Command of his administration’s unwavering commitment to bolstering security efforts within the Council.
During a meeting held Tuesday at the Bwari Council Secretariat, Dr. Gabaya highlighted his dedication to the safety and welfare of Bwari residents, noting that security would remain a top priority.
Chief Press Secretary to the Executive Chairman Agada Ernest Godwin (JP) in a statement made available to the National Update indicated that the NSCDC team, led by FCT Commandant Olusola Odumosu, made its first official visit to the Council since Odumosu’s appointment.
The visit the statement said is aimed at strengthening cooperation between the NSCDC and Bwari Area Council, a collaboration Dr. Gabaya praised as both “longstanding and mutually beneficial.”
Dr. Gabaya lauded the local NSCDC officers for their diligent work and encouraged Commandant Odumosu to prioritize Bwari residents in future recruitment exercises.
He expressed confidence that the existing partnership with the NSCDC would continue to foster peace and stability in the community, reiterating the Council’s commitment to supporting security agencies in their mission.
“We are here to ensure security is maintained. As challenging as it may be, we will make resources available to support those who work tirelessly to protect our community,” Dr. Gabaya stated.
In response, Commandant Odumosu commended Dr. Gabaya’s administration for its continuous support of security agencies, recognizing the Council’s role in sustaining peace and governance in Bwari.
He assured that the NSCDC would remain steadfast in working with the Council and other local security bodies to uphold law and order across the Federal Capital Territory.
Other officials in attendance included Bwari Area Council Vice Chairman Hon. Aminu Musa Gumel, Council Secretary Hon. Eli Peter Kadanya, and Chief of Staff Hon. Sunday Zaka Sumpe.

Gabaya Donates New Patrol Vehicle to Bwari Police Station
In a continued commitment to enhancing security within Bwari Area Council, the Executive Chairman, Hon. Dr. John Gabaya, has donated a brand new Toyota Hilux patrol vehicle to the IGU Divisional Police headquarters in Bwari.
The donation, presented during a ceremony at the Area Council Secretariat, is intended to support the police operational capacity in maintaining peace and security across the council.
The Chief Press Secretary to the executive chairman, Agada Ernest Godwin in a statement quoted Gabaya reiterated his administration’s dedication to safeguarding lives and property within Bwari during the handover event.
He emphasized that the donation aligns with the current administration’s focus on bolstering security and ensuring stability in the area.
This contribution adds to a series of past donations made by his administration, which have included vehicles and motorcycles for various security and paramilitary agencies operating within the council.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of IGU Division, CSP Bukar Ntasiri, accepted the vehicle on behalf of the Nigerian Police Force.
Expressing gratitude, CSP Ntasiri described the day as significant not only for the police but also for the people of Igu, its surrounding communities, and the wider Bwari Area Council.
“We are grateful to Hon. Dr. John Gabaya for this generous support,” CSP Ntasiri stated. “This gesture strengthens our capacity to maintain the peace we currently enjoy in Igu and across Bwari Area Council. We are committed to using this new vehicle to uphold and protect that peace.”
The patrol vehicle is expected to enhance the police responsiveness to security challenges, further promoting a safer environment for residents of the Bwari Area Council.

Mahmoud Commiserates with Gomo of Kuje Over Wife’s Passing
Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, has expressed her heartfelt condolences to the Gomo of Kuje, His Royal Highness Alhaji Haruna Tanko Jibrin, following the death of his wife, Hajiya Asmau Haruna Tanko Jibrin.
In a condolence message, Mahmoud described the passing of Hajiya Asmau as a shocking and significant loss to the traditional institution and the women of Kuje.
Special Adviser on Media to minister Austine Elemue in a statement issued on Thursday quoted her to have praised the late Hajiya Asmau for her dedication to promoting peace and unity within the community and beyond, noting that her legacy would be remembered.
“I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Hajiya Asmau Haruna Tanko Jibrin,” Mahmoud’s stated.
“Her death is a great sorrow to the Kuje community and especially heartbreaking for His Royal Highness, as she was a beloved wife, devoted mother, and a pillar of strength to her family.”
The minister acknowledged Hajiya Asmau’s contributions to supporting traditional customs and local initiatives, highlighting how greatly her presence will be missed. Mahmoud also called on the Kuje community to keep the bereaved family in their prayers during this difficult time, while asking Allah to grant Hajiya Asmau eternal rest in Aljannah Firdaus.
“Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un,” Mahmoud concluded, offering her sincere prayers for peace and comfort to the Gomo’s family.
