Presidential nomination: Lawal’s alleged emergence as consensus candidate of APC stokes controversy

Members of the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Monday distanced themselves from the purported emergence of the Senate President, Ahmed Lawal as the consensus candidate.

Their dissociation was coming hours after the National Chairman of the ruling party, Abdullahi Adamu had announced to the party that Lawal is consensus candidate for the APC National Convention.
However, the saying that a chicken that is too fast will cross over its spot for egg laying seem to be playing out as the plot to have Lawan as consensus may have hit a stone wall.

Adamu had informed the NWC members during a meeting at the Party’s National Secretariat in Abuja of the anointed candidate which resulted in disagreement as some members insist that all aspirants be given a level playing ground.

Speaking to Journalists shortly after the meeting, the National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Arugugu said the choice of Lawal is not the decision of the party adding that the party National Chairman had just informed the NWC.
He said “This decision was never taken by the NWC, but an information given to the NWC.
It has never been deliberated upon”.

The Organising Secretary also expressed support with the Northern Governors on shifting power to the south.
