Party accuses APC of pressuring Rockview, BON Hotel to deny it meeting venues
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of allegedly using political pressure to deny opposition parties access to meeting venues in Abuja, warning that the development could undermine democratic competition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party alleged that some hotels in the Federal Capital Territory had repeatedly withdrawn agreements to host its activities, despite prior arrangements, payments and compliance with booking conditions.

In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, the NDC specifically named Rockview Hotel, Abuja, and BON Hotel, Wuse, accusing them of refusing to honour agreements to provide venues for its meetings.
The party recalled that Rockview Hotel cancelled an arrangement to host its second National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in June 2026, after initially agreeing to make its facilities available.
It alleged that the hotel recently declined another request to host an NDC meeting, reportedly citing instructions from unnamed authorities.
The NDC also accused BON Hotel, Wuse, of refusing to host one of its meetings despite the party’s claim that it had fulfilled all the hotel’s requirements.
The opposition party further disclosed that the unveiling of its National Campaign Council was nearly disrupted after another prospective venue provider allegedly withdrew from an agreement following payment.
According to the party, the venue provider contacted it to request a refund, saying it was no longer willing to host the event.
The NDC suspected that the decision might have followed threats or pressure from unnamed quarters but did not provide evidence identifying those allegedly responsible.
It said its insistence on using the facility for which it had paid eventually compelled the venue provider to honour the agreement.
The party described the alleged incidents as an attempt to restrict opposition activities and called on the APC to allow political parties to organise meetings, mobilise supporters and conduct their activities without interference.
It warned that denying opposition parties access to commercial venues could restrict political participation and weaken the democratic process as parties prepare for the 2027 elections.
The NDC also urged Nigerians and democracy advocates to demand explanations from Rockview Hotel and BON Hotel, insisting that hospitality businesses should remain politically neutral and provide services without discrimination.
It maintained that it would not be discouraged by what it described as attempts to frustrate its activities, reaffirming its commitment to offering Nigerians an alternative political platform.
The party ended its statement with its campaign declaration: “A New Nigeria is POssible! We can do it.”
