PDP Raises Alarm Over Alleged FCT Land Gifts to INEC Officials

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has raised concerns over allegations that the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, granted land and cash incentives to senior officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, the party described the reports as troubling and warned that they could weaken public trust in Nigeria’s electoral system.

The PDP cited claims involving INEC officials, including Mohammed Kudu Haruna, who was reportedly linked to the alleged land allocation, while also calling for clarity on whether top officials, including INEC Chairman Joash Amupitan, were beneficiaries.

The party questioned the fairness of such allocations, noting that other essential workers—such as healthcare professionals, teachers, and security personnel—have not received similar attention despite their critical roles.

Describing the situation as one that demands urgent explanation, the PDP urged INEC to come forward and address the allegations transparently, warning that silence could further damage the credibility of the electoral body.

As political tensions rise ahead of future elections, the opposition party emphasized that INEC must uphold strict standards of impartiality and transparency to preserve public confidence in the democratic process.
