The Forum of Former Deputy Governors of Nigeria (FFDGN) has celebrated its National Chairman, Dr Chris Akomas, on his 66th birthday, praising his contributions to governance and national development.
The forum’s Director-General, Dr Kenneth Ibe-Kalu, in a birthday message issued in Abuja, described Akomas as a committed public servant whose wealth of experience had strengthened the leadership of the organisation.
Ibe-Kalu said Akomas had deployed his experience in public administration to promote dialogue on governance, democratic development and issues affecting Nigerians.
He noted that the forum’s national conferences under Akomas had provided opportunities for former deputy governors and other stakeholders to exchange ideas and contribute to discussions on national issues.
According to him, Akomas has also advocated policies focused on improving the welfare of Nigerians and addressing their basic needs.
Ibe-Kalu described the celebrant as a courageous and dedicated leader who pursued issues he believed in with commitment and concern for humanity.
He urged Nigerians at home and abroad to join the forum in celebrating the former Abia deputy governor.
Akomas served as Deputy Governor of Abia State before representing the state as Federal Commissioner on the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).
He later chaired the commission’s Indices and Disbursement Committee and also served as Abia State Commissioner for Lands and Survey.
Beyond public office, the 66-year-old held administrative positions at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Ibadan, and the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI).
Akomas holds a PhD in Applied Psychology from Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, and a master’s degree in Personnel Psychology from the University of Ibadan.
He is currently the National Chairman of the FFDGN and National Secretary of the South-East Stakeholders Forum.
The FFDGN is a non-partisan body comprising former deputy governors from Nigeria’s 36 states. It provides a platform for members to share governance experiences, promote national development and make policy recommendations on democratic governance and socio-economic development.
