President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Sunday marked his 74th birthday with a quiet, low-key celebration, explaining that the decision reflects the prevailing mood of the nation amid ongoing economic challenges.
In a personally signed statement, the President said his choice was consistent with a long-standing tradition of aligning his birthday observance with national circumstances. He noted that, given the current realities facing Nigerians, a subdued celebration was both appropriate and necessary.
Tinubu acknowledged the economic difficulties linked to ongoing reforms under his administration, admitting that citizens have had to make sacrifices. However, he expressed optimism that the measures are beginning to yield results, pointing to what he described as “a glittering light at the end of the tunnel,” despite setbacks caused by global tensions, including the Middle East crisis.
Reflecting on his time in office, the President emphasized that the gains recorded so far are a collective achievement, crediting Nigerians for their resilience, support, and patriotism. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to overcoming existing challenges and building a stronger, more prosperous nation.
Tinubu also used the occasion to appreciate the outpouring of goodwill messages from across the country. He extended special thanks to the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and other well-wishers for their support and kind words.
As his administration approaches its third anniversary, the President reaffirmed his determination to deliver lasting progress, expressing confidence that Nigeria will emerge more resilient and positioned for sustainable growth.
