Former Minister of Humanitarian Services, Nentawe Yilwatda, and Senator Ajibola Basiru have been returned unopposed as National Chairman and National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Their emergence was confirmed at the party’s 4th Elective National Convention held at Eagle Square, Abuja, where key officers of the National Working Committee (NWC) were selected through a consensus arrangement.
The APC’s National Convention Election Committee announced the outcome, affirming that both Yilwatda and Basiru secured their positions without contest, in line with the party’s internal agreements.
The development follows the party’s earlier decision to retain its existing zoning formula for NWC positions—a move aimed at balancing representation across geopolitical zones and ensuring internal cohesion.
In a statement prior to the convention, APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, had urged aspirants to strictly adhere to the zoning arrangement outlined in the party’s schedule of activities for the 2026 convention cycle.
The convention, themed “Unity in Progress: Consolidating the Renewed Hope Agenda,” drew top party figures, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas.
Also in attendance were ministers, governors, and party stakeholders from across the country, underscoring the significance of the gathering in shaping the APC’s leadership structure ahead of future elections.
The convention was organised by a planning committee co-chaired by former Katsina State Governor, Aminu Bello Masari, and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim.
Meanwhile, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed that no fewer than 8,453 delegates were accredited to participate in the convention’s proceedings.
The consensus-driven emergence of the party’s new leadership signals a strategic effort by the APC to maintain unity and internal stability as it prepares for the political contests ahead.
