The Nasarawa State Government has dismissed reports alleging that Governor Abdullahi Sule held a secret political meeting with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in Saudi Arabia, describing the claims as false and politically motivated.
In a statement issued in Lafia, the governor’s media office said the reports suggesting a deal to unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections were “a complete fabrication” that did not occur at any point during the governor’s recent trip for the lesser Hajj in Mecca.
The government stressed that no meeting—formal or informal—took place between Sule and Atiku or any of his associates, insisting that the narrative was deliberately crafted to create tension and misrepresent the governor’s political stance.
It further maintained that Governor Sule remains firmly aligned with President Tinubu and has consistently used public platforms to commend his leadership and support the administration’s agenda.
Warning against what it described as attempts to sow discord, the state government accused unnamed political actors of trying to damage the relationship between Sule and the president, expressing confidence that such efforts would fail.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson to Atiku Abubakar also indicated a lack of awareness of any such meeting, reinforcing the uncertainty surrounding the initial claims.
The Nasarawa government reiterated that governors elected on the platform of the ruling party remain united in their backing of President Tinubu, insisting that no amount of speculation would alter that position.
