Turaki Challenges Bench Warrant, Moves to Halt Court Order

Factional Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), has appealed a bench warrant issued by a Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court following his absence from a scheduled court hearing.
The warrant, issued by Justice Peter Kekemeke, stemmed from Turaki’s failure to appear in a case involving a one-count charge of allegedly giving false information to the Inspector-General of Police in a 2022 petition.
Turaki’s legal team has filed an appeal alongside an application for a stay of execution, arguing that the warrant should not stand. His representatives maintain that his absence was due to a sudden hospital visit and that his lawyers had already taken steps to challenge the charge—actions that did not require his physical presence in court.
The case, marked FCT/HC/CR/647/25, was previously reassigned after Turaki raised concerns about the earlier proceedings before another judge.
While prosecutors cited repeated absences and urged the court to compel his appearance under the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, Turaki insists there is no cause for alarm, describing the situation as being handled legally and within due process.
The matter remains ongoing as the court considers the appeal and related applications.
