The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, this week led high-level engagements in Abuja with global energy and finance partners to strengthen Nigeria’s leadership under Mission 300—the continental initiative aimed at expanding electricity access and accelerating economic growth.
The strategic discussions focused on fast-tracking project delivery and mobilising large-scale investment to revitalise Nigeria’s power sector, with participants recognising reliable electricity as a foundation for productivity, industrialisation, digital inclusion, and job creation.
Mr. Edun reaffirmed that Mission 300 is a core pillar of Nigeria’s economic strategy.
Director, Information and Public Relations,
Mohammed Manga in a statement quoted Edun to have highlighted Nigeria’s early adoption of the Compact, the establishment of a joint Finance and Power Delivery Unit, and growing momentum in distributed renewable energy driven by innovative financing structures and strong private-sector participation.
Managing Director of Operations at the World Bank Group, Ms. Anna Bjerde, commended Nigeria’s reform efforts, describing the country as a potential game changer for Mission 300 due to its scale, ambition, and leadership role. She noted that existing programmes are already expanding access to electricity and laying the groundwork for broader economic impact.
The Honourable Minister of Power, Mr. Adebayo Adelabu, emphasised alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic agenda, citing progress in sector reforms, metering improvements, transmission restructuring, and regional power integration.
At the close of the engagements, all parties agreed to accelerate implementation, attract capital at scale, and ensure Mission 300 delivers tangible and inclusive economic benefits for Nigerians.
