The Lagos Country Club (LCC) welcomed the New Year in signature style, hosting a glittering annual New Year Party that combined high society glamour with a clear-eyed look at the Club’s future. Beyond the celebration, the evening doubled as the unveiling of LCC’s 2026 Developmental Roadmap, signalling a bold and ambitious direction for the historic institution.
Elegantly dressed members and guests filled the Club’s grounds, creating a lively atmosphere of camaraderie and celebration. The event was further distinguished by the presence of His Royal Majesty, Oba Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, the Akarigbo of Remo, and His Royal Majesty, Oba Lawrence Jayeoba, the Orimolusi of Ijebu Igbo, whose attendance lent traditional prestige to the contemporary gathering.
Welcoming guests, LCC President Mr. Seyi Adewunmi described the Club as far more than a social retreat, noting its growing influence within Nigeria’s professional and business landscape.
“The Lagos Country Club is a thriving community of over 3,000 members who collectively shape key sectors of our national life,” he said.
Looking ahead to 2026, Adewunmi outlined plans focused on infrastructure renewal and improving the overall member experience. Central to the vision is the proposed Youth and E Section (YES)—a modern, technology-driven space aimed at engaging younger members and securing the Club’s long-term relevance. He called for strategic support from the Lagos State Government, stressing that the project aligns with broader objectives of youth development and institutional sustainability.
Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Mr. Kolawole Oyefeso, praised the Club’s leadership for sustaining high standards over the years. He reminded new members that the strength of the Lagos Country Club lies in a legacy built by successive generations and encouraged them to protect and advance that heritage.
Representing Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Commissioner for Information, Hon. Gbenga Omotoso, drew parallels between the Club’s resilience and that of Lagos State. He recalled challenges faced in 2025, including the Great Nigeria Insurance House fire and a tragic maritime incident, noting that Lagos, like the Club, has consistently shown the capacity to recover and move forward.
The Governor’s message highlighted Lagos’ growing profile as a tourism and global events destination, urging members to continue to see the Lagos Country Club as a symbol of unity, endurance, and shared purpose.
A major highlight of the night was the presentation of Special Awards to former Management Council members for their years of selfless service. In a standout moment, the 2025 Resource Person Award was presented to Mr. Segun Shonubi, Chairman of the Media and Publicity Committee, in recognition of his strategic communication efforts that significantly boosted the Club’s public image.
The evening ended on a high note with vibrant entertainment, warm networking, and formal toasts to the Lagos Country Club, Lagos State, and the Federal Republic of Nigeria, ushering in what promises to be an exciting and defining year ahead.
