In a move to heal cracks exposed by its recently concluded primary elections, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has constituted a high-powered National Reconciliation Committee headed by political economist, Prof. Pat Utomi, with veteran politician Engr. Buba Galadima serving as Co-Chairman.
The intervention comes as the opposition party moves to consolidate its ranks following post-primary grievances in several states, with the leadership determined to prevent internal disputes from undermining preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The committee was unveiled in a statement jointly signed on Wednesday by the NDC National Chairman, Senator Cleopas Moses, and the National Secretary, Mr. Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu.
According to the statement, the seven-member panel has been mandated to engage aggrieved aspirants, mediate disputes arising from the primaries and recommend lasting solutions capable of restoring confidence and strengthening party unity.
Other members of the committee are Mohammed Sanni Takori, who will serve as Vice Chairman; Babatunde Alli as Secretary; and Mrs. Dudu Mamman Manuga, Hon. Salvador Adegoke Moshood and Alhaji Haruna Pai as members.
To broaden the reconciliation exercise, the party also approved three zonal reconciliation sub-committees covering the North, South-South and South-East geopolitical zones. The committees are expected to work closely with party stakeholders at the grassroots to address complaints and foster unity across the affected regions.
The NDC leadership described the initiative as a strategic effort to close ranks after the primaries, reconcile divergent interests and position the party for the next phase of its political engagements.
The National Reconciliation Committee will be formally inaugurated at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja at 12 noon on Thursday, August 6, 2026.
According to the party, the complete membership of both the national committee and the zonal reconciliation panels will be made public during the inauguration ceremony.
