A support group, the Ibom Future Leaders Forum (IFLF), has accused unnamed individuals of orchestrating a campaign to undermine the reputation of the Akwa Ibom State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Commandant Geraldine Abetianbe.
The group, which addressed a press conference in Uyo, insisted that the allegations of corruption, tribalism and discrimination circulating against the Commandant were false and intended to damage her credibility.
Chairman of the Forum’s Board of Trustees, Rt. Comrade Emmanuel Johnny, described Abetianbe as a disciplined, transparent and result-driven officer whose leadership has improved the effectiveness of the NSCDC in Akwa Ibom State.
According to him, the Commandant has maintained high standards of professionalism and accountability while strengthening the Corps’ mandate of safeguarding critical national assets and infrastructure.
Johnny argued that claims of ethnic bias were unfounded, stressing that the NSCDC’s operational structure is guided by merit, competence and federal character rather than tribal affiliations. He noted that most key departments in the Akwa Ibom State Command are headed by indigenes, while only a few positions are occupied by officers from outside the state.
The Forum also dismissed allegations of financial misconduct, maintaining that the Command’s finances are handled by qualified personnel under established procedures, leaving no basis for claims of mismanagement.
Clarifying reports on the Anti-Vandal Unit, the group said SP Michael Asibor no longer serves in the Akwa Ibom Command, having been redeployed in 2025. It identified SC Akan Ekanem as the current head of the unit.
On the controversial staff welfare scheme, the Forum explained that Abetianbe inherited the arrangement on assumption of office but later discontinued it after personnel expressed dissatisfaction.
The group commended the Commandant-General of the NSCDC, Prof. Ahmed Audi, for appointing Abetianbe to lead the Akwa Ibom Command, describing her as a people-focused officer whose tenure has strengthened security and public confidence.
It also warned those behind what it described as a coordinated smear campaign to desist or face legal consequences, disclosing plans to petition the Nigeria Police National Cybercrime Centre over alleged cyberstalking, defamation and attempts to incite public disorder.
The Forum urged journalists and members of the public to verify all information relating to the Command through its Public Relations Officer, saying responsible reporting remains essential to public trust and national security.
