The Obidient Movement has reaffirmed its unwavering backing of Peter Obi for the office of President of Nigeria, rejecting claims that it supports him as a vice-presidential candidate to anyone.
In a statement on January 3, 2026, the movement dismissed recent misrepresentations arising from an interview with its National Coordinator, Dr Tanko Yunusa, describing them as deliberate distortions of its position.
The statement emphasized that the movement’s focus is the emergence of credible and accountable leadership through lawful, democratic means. It stressed that its loyalty lies not with any political platform, but with Obi’s leadership vision and Nigeria’s national renewal.
Currently supporting Obi within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the movement said it will abide by a transparent and fair nomination process. Should the process fall short, it warned that a united, lawful, and principle-driven decision will be taken.
“Wherever Mr Peter Obi, acting lawfully and guided by conscience, chooses to pursue his presidential mandate, the Obidient Movement will move with him,” the statement read.
The group reiterated its commitment to peaceful democratic engagement, warning against misinformation, political pressure, and partisan attacks. It called on Nigerians to remain focused and united, describing a Peter Obi presidency as the path to national renewal, accountable governance, and economic recovery.
“A New Nigeria is possible,” the statement concluded.
