Former Abia State Governor and Senator, Orji Uzor Kalu, has lauded the infrastructure drive of Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu after commissioning a network of 10 roads constructed in Arkilla New Layout, Wamakko Local Government Area.
Kalu described the projects as a significant investment in the future of Sokoto, saying quality road infrastructure remains one of the strongest foundations for economic growth, urban development and improved living standards.
The former governor, who inaugurated the roads on Friday, praised Aliyu for what he termed a visible transformation taking place across the state, noting that the administration’s commitment to infrastructure was already yielding tangible results.
“I commend Governor Ahmed Aliyu for his dedication to developing Sokoto State through strategic infrastructure projects. Roads are critical to growth, commerce and social development,” Kalu said.
He also used the occasion to call for greater national unity, urging Nigerians to embrace peaceful coexistence and work together in building a stronger and more stable country.
Governor Aliyu disclosed that the Arkilla New Layout road network was delivered at a cost of N3.5 billion, adding that the project was conceived to meet the demands of a rapidly expanding population and growing economic activities within the area.
According to him, the roads will ease movement, reduce travel time, improve security and stimulate commercial activities while enhancing the overall quality of life for residents.
Aliyu reiterated that infrastructure development remains a cornerstone of his administration’s urban renewal agenda, revealing that several other road projects have either been completed or are ongoing in communities across the state, including Gawon Nama, Mabera, Gidan Igwai and Tudun Wada.
The governor maintained that sustained investment in road construction and rehabilitation would continue to drive economic expansion and open up more communities for development.
Traditional and community leaders also applauded the projects, with representatives of the Sultanate Council and residents of Arkilla New Layout describing the roads as a major intervention that will improve accessibility and boost socio-economic activities in the area.
